L.N.E.R Football Locomotive Nameplates In early December 1928 a newthree-cylinder locomotive was introduced by the L.N.E.R. The first namesallocated to these locomotives were of stately homes, mansions etc. Later,names of football clubs and famous regiments were also included in the class.The locomotives were originally classified B17, but with modifications over theyears including the introduction of a larger boiler and two cylinders, somewere reclassified B2The “Footballer” locos werealways the most popular and with their eventual demise, many of the nameplateswere acquired by the clubs they represented. The nameplates were over 68 incheslong and showed the name of the club surmounting a replica brass football, withthe club colours displayed either side of the footballThe series has been lovinglyreproduced and enhanced in a multi layered process from an original black and white photograph.
