An original printed postcard from c.1904
Published in Raphael Tucks Celebrated Football Players series. George Molyneux, here seen wearing the 1904 Southampton strip.
George was a Liverpool lad who began his career playing Junior League football for Kirkdale FC. He later caught the bigger clubs eyes while playing for Third Grenadier Guards FC, and finally signed for Stoke City in March 1898.
He joined Everton that same season and stayed there 2 years. He then moved on to Southampton in 1900, where he made 142 appearances and helped them win the Southern League title three times. He also received an FA Cup runners up medal in 1902.
In 1905 (the year after this postcard was published by Tuck) he moved from Saints to Portsmouth, playing 23 games there before moving on to Southend in 1906, where he also worked as manager for a year in the 1910-11 season. His final involvement in football was helping out at Colchester Town.
In excellent condition.
