A FOOTBALL MATCH AT MANCHESTER.
The view here given represents a match between the Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Everton Club, at Fallowfield Ground, Manchester. The vast crowd therein shown is a good proof of the absorbing interest which a first-class football match now arouses in almost any of our great centres of population, but especially in the northern and midland counties. Year by year this interest has grown, until now a match is often witnessed by tens of thousands. Even cricket does not in the north draw such crowds of spectators, or excite for weeks previously such animated discussion as an important match at football, and such a scene as here depicted well illustrates the innate love of the British people for manly sports.
